Total precipitation expressed as the percentage of the long-term mean during the summer drought of 1988 for the Midwest region. Almost all areas experienced less than 75% of the long-term mean and some areas in Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, and Wisconsin received less than half of the long-term mean.
